Jewellery of Central Asia

On the 22nd of September 2015 Sotheby’s Auction house hosted reception and book launch of Jewellery of Central Asia with an exhibition of traditional silver ornaments and textiles from Central Asia dating from the 19th to early 20th centuries from the private collection. It encompasses works of finest craftsmanship from Western Kazakhstan, which embodies the tradition of national art and jewellery making, as well as accessories from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and the Kara-Kalpak area. The collection was started 20 years ago, which also includes decoratively embroidered robes from Bukhara, national costumes from Tajikistan and Turkmenistan regions as well as filigree belts, from Crimean Tatars. What is unique is that each piece of jewellery differs from region to region with each tribe having its own ornament and preferable semi-precious stones. Upcoming exhibition of the collection “Turkestan Journey: Jewellery and Textiles of Central Asia” will be held at Asia House on the 19th of April 2016 until the 12th of May.
